Well guys… I’ve been busy busy busy out here in Tokyo and I don’t have access to a computer anytime but now so here’s a sneak peek of what we were up to at the Tokyo Game Show.
The day before yesterday and yesterday I hit up a small Club Sega and another arcade that were close to The Manhatten hotel that I was staying at in Chiba. I am happy to say that I have a nice 8 game win streak out here in Japan with SF4 and I’m undefeated so far in every game of Tekken 6 I’ve played, however the competition is TOUGH! I noticed a lot of people play with M.Bison (aka Vega out here in Japan), and he’s one of my toughest match ups for some reason. I’ve had to play with Sagat out here since my E. Honda is nowhere near good enough to compete with these guys! I also picked up a Street Fighter 4 card to track my stats, although it only works out here since in the U.S. they decided not to implement the card readers.
In Tekken 6 people have picked just about every character against me and the only person who came close to beating me was using Devil Jin, however I think his lazer beam eyes and Zangief like grab make for a very unfair fight!
Today Hailey and I went to Namco Bandai headquarters where Hailey found out all the info on the new Tekken 6 game for Xbox and PS3 and I got hands on with the new Tekken 6 wireless controller that will be coming with the special edition bundles coming out October 27th here in the U.S. I also got some dirt on the new Tekken 6 for PSP… yup… you heard right… PSP. I showed off my Tekken knowledge and my Tekken 6 card and the guys were impressed at how into the game I am. I also found out the U.S. cards won’t work out here because they have a newer version of Tekken 6 out here with 2 more characters.
While at Namco Bandai we also got to play the all new not available to play anywhere else Tank Tank Tank arcade game. SO MUCH FUN! I can’t wait to upload pictures! Since Tokyo Game Show is done with we’re going to run around Tokyo and hit up all the arcades and hot spots for the next week. All of our antics will be posted on GirlGamer.com sometime within a week or so, and I’ll post pictures online as soon as I get back home and recover from jet lag.
Keep checking back to see any updates that I post! Also, seems like the wireless internet is up and going again which means I’ll have Xbox Live. Yup, that’s right… just cuz I’m in Tokyo doesn’t mean that I should stop gaming… it’s all gaming all the time for me so follow me on twitter.com/StarSlay3r and send me a message on XBL or feel free to ask me any questions. As for game requests I only could fit 3 games and 1 controller in my bag so I have Nascar… yeah… Nascar… don’t ask, Devil May Cry 4 and Burnout Revenge so if you have Burnout Revenge hit me up for some races!
Off to game…. ttyl Gamers!
Who says gaming won’t take you anywhere?
Wow! Yet again pursuing a career in professional gaming is taking me to places I’ve only dreamed of. Just last week I was in Jalisco, Guadalajara, Mexico for the WCG Pan American Championships competing for Guitar Hero and Rock Band and today I just got an amazing phone call saying that my dream has come true!
I’m sad to say that I will have to cancel my trip to New York for the WCG National Finals so I won’t get to be taking on challengers in games or hanging out with the awesome Ultimate Gamer crew… but I’m very happy to say that instead of going to New York, I will be going to Tokyo, Japan to do some hosting work with GirlGamer.com at the Tokyo Game Show! While some of you may think I’m going just to play games… you’re wrong… I’m going there to kick some serious butt and show everyone what I can do in front of the camera. I’m really excited that I’m going to be able to do some hosting work since it’s one step in the right direction toward another goal I have for myself. You know Morgan Webb??? Yeah basically I want to do what she does, so this is a great opportunity for me as well as a chance for me to work along side the great people over at GirlGamer.com These guys and gals have been by my side and have really been supportive of what I have been doing in the gaming industry and this is my chance to work with them and say “Thank you for all your hard work.” and give something back to them.
I am so excited it’s taking some hardcore discipline to sit in this chair and type this right now because honestly I want to jump around the house screaming and yelling “I’m going to Tokyo! I’m finally going to Tokyo!”. I’m even more excited that it’s because of GAMING that I’m able to go! WOO GAMING FTW! So to all of you people who told me “gaming will never get you anywhere” all I can say is Mexico and Japan baby… Mexico and Japan… and you better believe this is just the start!
I’m hoping to get a digital camera to take with me on this trip and I will be taking along a notebook to write down what I do out there. I’m also hoping to check out some local arcades at night when we’re not busy filming and I want to write about the differences I see comparing America to Japan as far as the gaming community goes. I’m also hoping to check out a jrock club if I can find one. I’m trying to spend as much time as possible to check out the gaming scene out there so I’m accepting paypal donations for this trip so I can hit up some gaming hot spots… if you can help my paypal email is StarSlay3rSponsorship@gmail.com I’m also more than happy to sell a guitar or some games to raise funds. GAME ON!!!

The Flash Player and a browser with Javascript support are needed. My experience at the WCG Pan American Championships

Well I had fun in Mexico but I’m glad to be back home. Competing in Mexico was an all new experience that really made me appreciate how good we have it here in the U.S. You thought games were expensive here? You complain about having to pay $300 for an Xbox but what if you had to pay over $550 for the system and $100 for each game? That’s right… in Mexico gaming is probably one of the most expensive professions you can have. With technology being outrageously overpriced the gamers in Mexico take every gaming tournament VERY seriously because they have some serious money to make up for all of the money they’ve invested into pursuing gaming as a career. Just wanted to touch base on this probably unknown fact and say that I appreciate the dedication of Mexico’s players and highly respect all of them. And now… for details on my trip!
Sept 11th 8:30 am Los Angeles, CA LAX Airport
I’m at the airport. It’s sooo early! Time to leave for mexico. I thought I’d be able to sleep on the flight but I found out I had to fill out a bunch of paperwork explaining my purpose to the country and such. This was my first time flying out of the country so I was completely oblivious to how everything worked. I was pretty happy I decided not to bring my xbox at this point in time since I saw how much of a hassle it was getting electronic devices on the flight.
12:00 noon Jalisco, Guadalajara, Guadalajara Airport
I push the button and it turns green *phew* I can pass into Mexico! I walk through the long walkway filled with people holding signs for their loved ones. Somehow I pass the guy holding the WCG sign without knowing it and was heading for the doors to outside when all of a sudden I hear “CIJI!!!” I look around and see none other than WCG Ultimate Gamer’s Jamal “Zophar321″ Nickens! He told me that he was there to fill in for Robert “Prod1gy X” Paz for Halo3. I had no idea he was coming so this was a pleasant surprise. Jamal is definitely one of the most fun of the group to hang out with. I noticed that there was extra baggage next to Jamal… Mark “applesauce” Smith had arrived with Jamal but was away at the moment. I checked in with the man in charge, Laurent, and we awaited Geoff “iNcoNtrol” Robinson. I greeted Geoff with a huge hug and was extremely happy that I was with my friends again. TEAM USA! we said… this is it! We left for our hotel and talked about the gaming community and what we’ve been up to since the show.
Later that night we stopped by the venue to check out the setup and check in on the progress of the Mexican country finals. We were all pretty impressed with Mexico’s skilled players and all admitted that we probably underestimated our competition. A lot of people came up to us (the ultimate gamers) and asked where we’re from. “USA” we respond, and the guys talk about which game they are there to play. This next part… it happened literally 6 or 7 times… The person then turns to me and says “…and you’re here to cheer them on?”. I chuckle and point to my badge… “I’m here to compete in Guitar Hero” to which almost all of them responded “Oh my gosh I’m so sorry… I mean… I didn’t mean that like… ” they then stumbled on their words. “It’s ok” I responded. The USA Team leader jokes around and says “It’s cuz you’re a girl (lol)”. “I’ve never seen a female competitor at WCG before is all.” they say. I was amazed how many times they said this. I’m hoping that in the future there are more females at these events, and not just to watch. This shouldn’t be unusual to people…

Valkyrie StarSlay3r join’s the home of the world’s greatest gamers
As posted on EmpireArcadia.com
A New Valkyrie aids her brother Knights:
The Female Gamer topic is perhaps the most controversial topic in the gaming community to date. Many (mostly male gamers) discredit female gamers as even being gamers to begin with; many more believe that they lack the ability to become a professional gamer period. Although some of the points to those claim hold some validity in some aspects, to say that it is completely true would be asinine. Many gamers around the world and even a few in the Empire believe that Female gamers have no place in the professional environment of gaming. Some believe that the only position available for them in the industry is to be a booth babes or a coach for a professional team.
TriForce who is also the founder of (VOA) “Valkyries of Arcadia” the female gamer division of Empire Arcadia believes that if given the right environment, female gamers can develop to not only compete on a male gamers level but can also excel pass their level. Unfortunately due to the immoral behaviors of male gamers, who not only encourage but influence female gamers to behavior in such unsavory acts and then expose these behaviors in public, the female gamer image has been greatly done an injustice. Thus in 2004 the “Valkyrie Profile Project” was initiated along with its division within the Empire, VOA. The purpose of this project was to equalize the environment that female and male gamers shared in competitive gaming and also some of the work acquire by the Empire within the gaming industry.
Even though the principles of the Valkyries were set up; very few Valkyries were able to perform well with in the project. Only a hand full of these Valkyries have done much if anything to represent the true potential of what it is to be a Valkyrie. Since that time a new and more intense project has been initiated by TriFore to refine the image of the Valkyries. This project was named “Valhalla: The Dark Valkyrie”. The focus of the project was to develop a hardcore and eccentric professional female gamer. Since the execution of this project the Empire has found a few Valkyries that qualified for the project. However of the few that were selected, one these Valkyries stand out the most.
Enter “Valkyrie StarSlay3r”; one of the hardest working professional female gamers in the United States. After 9 months of talks, StarSlay3r agreed to join Empire Arcadia to represent the Empire as a Valkyrie and show gamer’s world wide other aspects to being a professional female gamer. StarSlay3r strives to be a versatile gamer and has the credentials to show for it.

This is only what she has accomplished on the competitive end of gaming. StarSlay3r’s versatility goes beyond her gaming as she was also a contestant on the WCG Ultimate Gamer show. She has also done a number of interviews for gaming media such as big as IGN to smaller entities such as The Two Cents.com. With Valkyrie StarSlay3r now an official managed professional gamer of Empire Arcadia, we look forward to her bringing her experience in the field of professional gaming to the Valkyries as she is poised to represent the true essence of a Valkyrie of Arcadia.
With StarSlay3r playing a point position for Valkyries the Empire looks to utilize her reputation and image to launch female gamer line of clothing in the Empire Arcadia collection found only at JINX. The Valkyrie line will focus on the many different expressions in female gaming that can not be found in its male counter part. Stay tuned.
