  • 3 days into CES in Las Vegas!

    Posted by StarSlay3r On January - 9 - 2010

Hey everyone! I’ve been in Las Vegas for 3 days now and I’ve been having a TON of fun!

    DAY 1-

I came to Las Vegas a day early to sneak in an interview with WCG and get the dirt on WCG Ultimate Gamer 2, and get some news about the WCG in general. After the interview I used the opportunity to check out the still under construction CES floor to check out some new games! One of the first games I played was HEAVY RAIN for the PS3 which is BAD ASS let me tell you! The creators of Indigo Prophecy come back to do this game and it’s basically the same type of game but a LOT more interactive and it gives you a LOT more control over the story. This is one of 2 games I saw that made me want to buy a PS3 finally!

After playing HEAVY RAIN I moved over 5 feet to play the game MAG. While the game can have up to 256 playing at once, I played vs about only 20 or so people. The game is very call of duty ish but the thing I hated the most about the game was the controls. I think I’m too used to using RT to shoot thanks to Halo and COD and in this game you use the ps3 equivalent R1 on the PS3 which was very awkward and L1 to steady your gun. This wouldn’t have been a major issue if it wasn’t for the fact that you CAN NOT change the button configuration. I’m hoping that this is just because it’s not a finalized version or something because if you can’t change your button configs for this game that is a HUGE downfall. Graphically…this is an amazing game however and the massive multiplayer factor is just going to be interesting to see in action.

After MAG I jumped on Gran Turismo 5. I have been a fan of the series for a while but due to the stupid wheel setup they had there I found myself too frustrated to play the game much longer than 1 track/ 3 laps worth of time. I honestly HATE the Wheel/pedal config and prefer to play with a ps3 controller and they didn’t have any regular controller set ups for the game.

At night I did all my networking with companies and hit up some after parties. Got a headache and had to crash early though (by early I mean like 1am)

    DAY 2-

This is the day I ran around and had FUN! I got to meet up with Swoozie, Jamal and Mark from Ultimate Gamer and we rocked out at the booth to Rock Band Beatles. NBC came over and filmed us rocking out and we got to take some photos with fans which rocked!

I met up with my buddy ShabeRaven and we roamed around Central and North Hall checking out all the gadgets and gizmos.

At night was when things got REALLY fun! I was invited out to the official Capcom Las Vegas Fight Night party. I got there a bit late but luckily Seth sqeezed me into the Super Street Fighter 4 tournament since Major Nelson already had me down for the team and I was SUPER excited I got to finally touch the game. Shortly after arriving Mike Watson handed me one of the oh so hard to get TE stick Keychains! SCORE! Within 20 or so minutes my match was up and I had to play against a Dee Jay player. I have NO IDEA what any of the new characters moves even LOOK like so I was SUPER nervous for my match. Without knowing what the characters were capable of I don’t know what moves beat what and what to expect from the character in general thanks to the fact that I just started playing Street Fighter with #4 and have no experience with the former versions which include these characters. :( My hands were shaking and my opponent was skilled, but I came out on top! My next game however was being live streamed to over 4,000 viewers and I was so nervous I couldn’t stop shaking! With the whole room rooting me on, taping me and with my next opponent being a well known gamer I was NOT in tourney mode! I lost game 1, won game 2 but then choked on round 3 meaning DJ Wheat was the victor. I got TONS of props for my Honda skills and got a bunch of compliments via text for my performance even though everyone knows I could have won if I wasn’t so damn nervous. After getting that out of the way I could finally relax and play some casuals off to the side and practice the new character I want to pick up… Juri! I also got to check out E. Honda’s new 2nd ultra which I have to admit… I don’t like. :p Said my goodbyes to Justin Wong, Mike Watson and the UG crew then headed out from the party a bit early to get food.

When I got back to my hotel I decided it was a good time to edit some videos. I edited “Stacy’s Mom” and me vs Schmegery for a “Cathedral” double FC where ONE of us found the Optimal Star Path. Who? Find out and see in a few hours!

    DAY 3-
Today I got to a late start! I missed out on my Capcom interview due to not even leaving the hotel til around 2pm ish and heard that apparently Capcom knows me well. :p Good news? I think so! I’m hoping to get much better at this game and become close with Capcom some day. While I still play Guitar Hero and Rock Band I really have been dedicating a lot of time to Street Fighter since I made the commitment back in April and I am excited to see how far I can go with this game. TY Capcom for being awesome!

Since I missed the Capcom interview I headed to the convention center with ShabeRaven with the plan of tackling South Hall. Upon walking in South Hall ShabeRaven immediately noticed a HUGE truck with Guitar Hero on the HUGE tv in it’s side. Upon heading over we hopped on and were surprised to see that the massive tv had NO LAG! AMAZING! We hung out at the Flick Truck for a while and everytime I played a huge crowd of people would gather. After playing and winning a few songs by a long shot I was challenged by Flick’s GH pro to Guitar Hero Smash Hits song “Bark At The Moon”. He was a tough match and after shaking off my nervs I made a comeback at the solo and continued on to hold a 350+ note streak to the end activating star power at key moments to get a huge lead on him winning the match. With lots of “congrats” and hand shakes and photos that ensued I figured I should probably move on and we left.

Without having to walk to far we noticed the Altec booth was blaring Rock Band 2 out of two tiny little amps. What great sound! Shabe and I stood behind two people playing on easy. A man looks at me and goes “this must bore you” since he saw my performance at the truck earlier. I laughed and took over the guitar and put on Score Duel. They announce they have a little tournament in 30 minutes and we can practice then come back later for a chance to win one of their amps. We play “Almost Easy” just for the hell of it and ANOTHER huge crowd gathers. Altec shows their thanks by giving me one of their amps. WOW! Gratified with my performance I sign for my amp and take off to check out the upstairs of South Hall.

After realizing South Hall is pretty much all sound related accessories and *bling* for your gear we got pretty bored and found ourselves back downstairs to try to “win” an amp this time. After ANOTHER crowd gathers to watch me play I catch the attention of a Dutch TV station. The camera guy comes up to me and asks me to play another song since he only got the tail end of me beating someone before. I play “Everlong” solo and he says to me “You’re going to be famous”. As a thank you for bringing in so much attention AGAIN to this booth I get another amp from Altec. SCORE!

After feeling good I realize that it’s already time to get ready to head out. :( SO SAD! Shabe and I grab our amps and head to the Flick truck to play some more PFO matches on GH: Van Halen this time and then head back to the hotel. 10pm I got to check out the Blue Man Group for the first time ever. MOST EPIC SHOW EVER! I recommend seeing them if in Vegas for sure. I’m currently back at the hotel and I CAN HAZ INTERNETS so I’m uploading 2 videos to youtube.com/StarSlay3r so make sure to check it out in a few!

The next 2 days of CES are going to be EPIC! Why? Cuz I’m going to play with EYEpet next. O…M…G!
